Registration Advising and Promotion

As a program partner, high schools and coordinators play an important role in advertising the program to their high school communities. This may involve hosting parent nights, distributing flyers, speaking to students in classrooms and more.

The 1818 Program office offers various levels of support to both local and distance partners to facilitate marketing and advising efforts.

Registration Timelines

The 1818 Program offers three different term offerings. High schools may offer any combination of yearlong and semester-long courses depending on the type of course offered and desired duration of courses.

  • Yearlong courses are offered during the entirety of the academic year, typically from September to May and equate to one course (3 credit hours for a standard course).
  • Fall courses are offered in the fall term, typically from September to December and equate to one course (3 credit hours for a standard course).
  • Spring courses are offered in the spring term, typically from January to May and equate to one course (3 credit hours for a standard course).

Please see our academic calendar for our corresponding registration, payment, and grading deadlines. It is important to understand registration timelines, so students register at the appropriate times. Students who miss the registration period are ineligible to receive 1818 credit.

Student Eligibility and Credit Hour Limits

To ensure students are enrolled in appropriate level coursework, students with a Sophomore, Junior, or Senior standing must meet certain GPA requirements. Please see our eligibility requirements for each grade level.

Students who wish to enroll in 1818 courses may enroll in a maximum of 11 credit hours per semester. For yearlong classes, the credit bearing will be split between the fall and spring semester. For example, a 3-credit-hour yearlong course will be considered 1.5 credit hours in the fall semester and 1.5 credit hours in the spring semester.

Registration Steps

Several steps must be completed in DualEnroll in order to complete a student's registration.

Step 1: Student Registers

While we understand this may be a student’s first exposure to college-level coursework, we strongly suggest students complete registration themselves. We encourage students to treat this experience as the first step in becoming a college-ready student, by registering independently, and if needed, with the support of an instructor, parent or guardian.

Before registering, students should understand fully what dual credit is, the benefits of taking dual credit, how their credits will transfer, how much it will cost and the deadlines to drop or withdraw from 1818 coursework if they decide dual credit is no longer for them. Students are also responsible for communicating to their parent or guardian their involvement in the program.

Students may register through DualEnroll during our registration periods.

Step 2: Coordinator Approves GPA

Once the student submits their registration, the 1818 coordinator receives a notification from DualEnroll requesting they confirm the student’s GPA and eligibility requirements. Please see our for detailed instructions on approving GPA.

Once the student is confirmed, or an exception is requested and approved, the student’s instructor will be asked to approve the student’s enrollment in the course and the parent will be asked to provide consent. The student’s registration is complete when all three of these steps are completed.

Step 3: Parent Provides Consent

After the instructor and coordinator have confirmed enrollment and GPA in DualEnroll, the parent/guardian listed on the student’s account will receive an email requesting consent for the student’s participation in the 1818 Program. Parents and guardians must complete this form by the end of their student’s registration period if the student wishes to be enrolled in 1818 coursework.

Step 4: Instructor Confirms Enrollment

In addition to advising students, instructors also play a role in helping ensure that student enrollments are correct, and that students signed up to take coursework meet all eligibility and pre-requisite requirements. Each term that an instructor registers students, they are responsible for:

  • Advising students on all academic calendar periods including registration, drop, withdraw, and payment deadlines for the term in which they are registering. Students may also need advising on how your specific courses are sequenced.
  • Approving student registrations within DualEnroll before the end of the registration period. Please see our for detailed instructions.

Students and parents will receive an email confirming successful registration once these steps are complete. Students will be dropped from 1818 coursework if their parent consent form is not completed by the end of the registration deadline.

Scholarship Opportunities for Students

Each year, the 1818 Program office allocates funding to each school to provide scholarships to students in need. This funding is managed and administered by each 1818 coordinator. Students interested in scholarship funding should contact their 1818 coordinator as soon as possible.

Missouri schools are also eligible for Missouri Department of Higher Education (MDHE) dual credit scholarships. More information, along with application materials, can be found on the .

SLU-led Promotional Events

Each year, the 1818 Program office offers the following events to support student and parent advising of dual credit before and during registration:

  • Parent Nights (in-person/virtual): An 1818 staff member will present to parents the meaning of dual credit, how it compares to other early college opportunities, and how dual credit may benefit their student.
  • Student Nights (in-person/virtual): An 1818 staff member or current SLU student will present to students the meaning of dual credit, what it means to take college credit in high school, college immersion opportunities through the program, and available 1818 credit opportunities at their specific high school.
  • Classroom registration support (in-person/virtual): An 1818 staff member will work jointly with the high school instructor/coordinator to facilitate registration during an offered class period.
  • Â鶹´«Ã½/1818 Program Rally Days (in-person): An 1818 staff member will attend a school-wide event to promote Saint Louis University and/or the 1818 Program at large. Depending on availability, SLU swag and Billiken mascot may be included in this event opportunity.

If your school or classroom is interested having SLU host any of the above events, please contact 1818@slu.edu as early as possible; preferably the semester before you intend to offer the event.
