Longtime Adjunct Professor of Psychology and Counseling, Teressa Wilcox, was recently featured as a guest on Close Up Radio, a CUTV News Radio program. Wilcox was asked to share about her therapy style, specifically a technique which includes eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR).

“EMDR is about reprocessing memory. When a post traumatic memory is triggered, a person’s body will go into survival mode,” Teressa explains. “EMDR opens the file to clean it out, essentially telling the brain, ‘We don't need to store this in a trauma file anymore.’”

Wilcox is passionate about the evolution of knowledge and technology in the field of neuropsychiatry. She weaves Christian Counseling and EMDR into traditional psychotherapeutic approaches.

“What I love about EMDR is we can move a lot faster,” says Teressa. “It doesn't take a lifetime in therapy to get relief.”

At HIU, Wilcox teaches classes and supervises students who are training to become a clinical therapist.
