Coursework required for all programs in Â鶹´«Ã½â€™s Department of Psychology lays the groundwork for your education while allowing enough flexibility for you to find the path that’s right for you.
SLU’s undergraduate psychology program offers a Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Arts and a minor in psychology. Each introduces you to the study of psychology, while developing skills in evaluation, as well as the understanding of self and others.
There are no requirements to declare the major for students new to SLU. Declaration of the psychology major after admission to SLU requires a C or better in PSY 1010: General Psychology and a GPA of 2.00 or better in psychology.
Undergraduate Psychology Experience
As an undergraduate in the Department of Psychology, you’ll gain experience across the psychology field, taking courses in cognitive neuroscience, developmental psychology, social/personality and applied psychology. You’ll form a mentor relationship as early as your freshmen year, providing an ongoing opportunity for you to learn from our internationally recognized faculty. Research is key as you pursue your degree, culminating with a senior project showcasing what you’ve learned. Research is just the start of how your education goes beyond the classroom, though, with clubs, internships and clinic experiences available for undergraduates, as well.
Graduate Psychology Experience
You’ll find what you’re passionate about as a graduate in the Department of Psychology. Choosing from clinical, experimental or industrial-organizational psychology will specialize your experience in the program immediately, pairing you with classes, practicum experiences and research opportunities that are right for you. Elective options in each track give you the flexibility to explore psychology and how it relates to other disciplines while required courses keep you on track for gainful employment after graduation. You will immerse yourself in the professional world before graduating, gaining hands-on experience in clinics, centers, research venues and teaching in classrooms as you pursue your degree. The department will also help you find the internship and post-graduation placement that’s right for you.
