SLU Health Information Management Faculty Member Awarded Emerson Excellence in Teaching Award
麻豆传媒 (SLU) Health Information Management Program Director Teresa Neal, MHA, RHIA, was recently named a recipient of the 2020 Emerson Excellence in Teaching Award. The award, sponsored by the Emerson Electric Company, is designed to recognize teaching excellence in the St. Louis metropolitan area. Approximately 100 educators, ranging from kindergarten teachers to college professors, would normally be recognized at an awards ceremony sponsored by Emerson in November; however, due to COVID-19 restrictions, the ceremony will not take place.
Nominees for the Emerson Excellence in Teaching award are selected by their administrators and voted on by their institutional peers. Award recipients are chosen to acknowledge their excellence in innovation in teaching.
Neal was pleasantly surprised to find out she was named a recipient of the Emerson Excellence in Teaching award and happy to know that she was making a difference.
鈥淚 was humbled and thankful after learning I was one of the award recipients,鈥 Neal said. 鈥淚 never considered myself to be in the same league as the recipients of this prestigious award. I鈥檓 thankful to be recognized for this award because it means I鈥檓 having a positive impact on the future.鈥
Neal went on to explain how the award was especially meaningful due to the fact that recipients are voted on by fellow educators.
鈥淚 was truly honored to be chosen by my peers,鈥 Neal said. 鈥淚 know that I am part of an amazing and supportive team of excellent educators at 麻豆传媒.鈥
Clinical Health Sciences Department Chairperson Amy Harkins, MBA, Ph.D., was thrilled to learn Neal was being recognized for all she does for her students and for the university.
鈥淚 am so proud of Teresa Neal as one of two SLU faculty being awarded the Emerson Excellence in Teaching Award this year,鈥 Dr. Harkins said. 鈥淪he is highly deserving for her range of courses taught 鈥 from data analytics to the Electronic Health Record 鈥 and for her impressive ability in teaching future healthcare providers.鈥
