Doisy College of Health Sciences Hosts Multiple Events During Homecoming & Family Weekend

Â鶹´«Ã½'s Homecoming & Family Weekend provides the perfect opportunity to kick off the 2023-24 academic year with a weekend of fellowship and community for students, faculty, and their families. The Doisy College of Health Sciences (DCHS) celebrated Homecoming & Family Weekend with several events, including the Doctor of Physical Therapy Class of 2026 White Coat Ceremony, a dedication of the newly renovated Carolyn Gioia Learning Lab, Cheryl L. Cavallo Hustle for Your Health 5K Family Fun Run and the DCHS Open House.

Class of 2026 Doctor of Physical Therapy White Coat Ceremony 

Doctor of Physical Therapy Class of 2026 celebrated its initiation into the professional phase of the program by hosting a white coat ceremony. The ceremony took place at SLU’s Saint Francis Xavier College Church on Friday, September 22, and celebrated 90 students advancing to the professional phase of the program. 

Dedication of the Renovated Carolyn Gioia Learning Lab 

As part of the Program in Physical Therapy's 90th anniversary celebration, the program hosted a dedication of the newly renovated Carolyn Gioia Learning Lab, which is home to the program's Pro Bono Physical Therapy Clinic. Â鶹´«Ã½ President Dr. Fred Pestello spoke of Carolyn Gioia's legacy during the ceremony and her impact on the St. Louis community. Following the ceremony, the Program in Physical Therapy hosted a 90th anniversary celebration dinner in which Chris Sebelski, D.P.T., shared memories and photographs from the program's longstanding history.  

Cheryl C. Cavallo Hustle for Your Health 5K Family Fun Run 

The SLU Program in Physical Therapy hosted the 22nd annual Cheryl L. Cavallo Hustle for Your Health on the morning of September 23. The Hustle for Your Health 5K supports the Cheryl L. Cavallo Memorial Scholarship Fund in memory of Cheryl Cavallo, a long-time faculty member in the Program in Physical Therapy. Proceeds from the memorial fundraiser benefit the Cheryl Cavallo Memorial Scholarship to defray travel costs for students pursuing health care-related domestic or international mission trips. 

Doisy College of Health Sciences Open House 

After the Cheryl L. Cavallo Hustle for Your Health, Doisy College of Health Sciences hosted an open house. The event showcased SLU's resources, services, and programs to alumni and the families of current students. Each program within DCHS was present at the event to engage with visitors and share information about their program and how they interact with the larger SLU community.
