Jemma Kim Named DCHS Precommencement Speaker

Doctor of Physical Therapy student Jemma Kim (DPT Class of ’23) has been selected as the 2023 鶹ý Doisy College of Health Sciences Precommencement speaker. 

Chris Sebelski P.T., D.P.T, Ph.D., chair of the Department of Physical Therapy and Athletic Training, spoke of Kim's growth in the program. 

“The faculty and staff of the Department of Physical Therapy and Athletic Training have shared Jemma’s journey through six years of the program," Dr. Sebelski said. "We are proud to see her actualize her potential with so many accomplishments including the DCHS Student Speaker.”

Kim also received the 2023 American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) Outstanding Student Physical Therapist Award this spring.  

The Outstanding Physical Therapist Award is a $1,000 scholarship that identifies a student physical therapist with exceptional overall accomplishments and contributions to the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) and the physical therapy profession.

Kim's other accomplishments include: “Spirit of the Billiken” Award, Honorary White Coat Ceremony Speaker, 鶹ý Women’s Commission “Woman of the Year,” and Jesuit Service awards. She is a member of Alpha Eta, National Allied Health Honor Society, and was selected for the 2023 APTA Leadership Scholars Program. 

Dean Bernard Rousseau Ph.D., MMC, FASHA spoke of Kim's recognition as this year’s student speaker. 

“We are extremely proud to recognize Jemma Kim as this year’s precommencement student speaker. Jemma is a natural leader and exemplifies the qualities and characteristics of a 鶹ý student. We are excited for her future and look forward to her continued engagement with our program as a graduate of the Doisy College of Health Sciences.” 

The Doisy College of Health Sciences Precommencement Ceremony will take place at 5 p.m. Central Time, Friday, May 19, 2023, at Chaifetz Arena. The ceremony will stream live on slu.edu, and the . Visit the 鶹ý Commencement page for additional event details.
