1818 Community Engagement Grant Winners Announced

10/26/2018

The winning projects in a program launched to commemorate Â鶹´«Ã½â€™s 200 years of scholarly excellence and community engagement have been announced.

The inaugural cycle of 1818 Community Engagement Grants received more 50 applications. A committee of faculty, staff members and students selected the 18 winners last week, and several of the projects are already underway.

Issues including health care and homelessness are addressed through some of the projects. Many of the selected projects focus on the education of under-served youth.

Other areas of community engagement related to projects include work with people with disabilities, the environment and immigrant populations.

Thirty-five community organizations in the St. Louis region are serving as partners for the various projects.

The 1818 Community Engagement Grant Program was launched as part of the University’s bicentennial celebration, and empowers students to self-author their own experiences related to service and social action.
