Ruben Garcia to Deliver Remarks on Migration on December 5

The Center for Social Action, Campus Ministry, and the Immigration Task Force of the Archdiocese of Saint Louis will be hosting an event with Ruben Garcia. The event will begin at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 5, in the Anheuser-Busch Auditorium in Cook Hall.

Garcia is the executive director of Annunciation House in El Paso, Texas. He will deliever a keynote address, "Migration and the Catholic Call in a Divided World." The address will focus on migration, the political climate and the Catholic faith.

For more than four decades, Garcia has been a advocate for social justice, co-founding Annunciation House in the late 1970s to address the urgent needs of migrants at the U.S.-Mexico border. Annunciation House is a non-profit supporting migrants and refugees through volunteer efforts, both short and long term, to provide hospitality for newly arrived individuals and families.

Under his leadership, the organization has grown significantly, providing shelter, food, and legal assistance to thousands. Recognized for his contributions to humanitarian aid, Garcia continues to be a leading voice for humane immigration policies and the protection of human rights. He has been called the "Saint of the Border" by the New Yorker while Texas government was attempting to shut down Annunciation House and their network of shelters.
