'Folly' Community Art Exhibit Seeking Entries

09/10/2024

The Studio Art Program at Â鶹´«Ã½ is seeking entries for its Themed Community Exhibition. This year, the theme is "Folly."

This is the second year of the Themed Community Exhibition. In 2023, the Studio Art Program held its inaugural exhibition in the McNamee Gallery on campus. After a theme was chosen by the faculty, and a call for entry was extended to the entire SLU community, the exhibit was juried by a selection of the faculty. A total of  22 works of art were exhibited.

For academic year 2024-2025, the Studio Art Program has chosen "Folly" as the theme. Folly is defined as:

  1. lack of good sense; foolishness, “an act of sheer folly," a foolish act, idea, or practice
  2.  a costly ornamental building with no practical purpose, especially a tower or mock-Gothic ruin built in a large garden or park.
  3. a theatrical revue with glamorous female performers such as the “Ziegfield Folliesâ€

Artists are invited to enter 1-2 works that are an interpretation of the call. All media are welcome. Any two-dimensional art should be framed and wired for hanging.

Timeline

Please print both of the entry forms for each artwork you enter. Attach one to the back of the work. The second will be collected by a gallery attendant.

All work will be juried on site at McNamee Gallery on the North campus, in the lower level of Cupples House. Works not accepted must be picked up by date indicated. The Studio Art Program is not responsible for damaged or lost work, though every effort will be made to protect the work throughout the duration of the exhibition.
