The basic idea behind HIU's School of Advanced Leadership (SALT) is that Hope partners with local churches to develop effective servant leaders from within their own community. SALT courses can be offered online with access to a mentor, or on a church campus facilitated by an approved teacher. As a Christian university, it is our mission to serve the local church, and SALT is a valuable and effective resource for doing so, in large and small churches alike.
SALT currently offers two programs: the and the . Courses are offered online in a streamlined format that is conducive to busy schedules, along with threaded discussions or face-to-face group meetings facilitated by the on-site mentor. A SALT Certificate is earned upon succesful completion of 12 units, comprised of four 3-unit courses. Units earned through SALT can be applied toward a degree program at HIU!
Each SALT course typically consists of audio or video lectures with PowerPoint, online discussions, readings, written assignments, and extensive learning resources. Classes are taught via , the premiere online educational platform and the most state-of-the-art and user-friendly technology on the market. HIU has ben at the forefront of online education for more than a decade and is recognized as a leader in innovative online programs that are accessible anytime and anywhere.

Our Certificate of Ministry equips emerging leaders with the knowledge and skills needed for effective and relevant ministry. Through SALT courses, leaders strengthen their practical ministry skills and spiritual health, and form a strong Biblical foundation from which to serve others. Ministry staff, interns, and church members will all benefit from SALT courses. Upon completing 12 units in this SALT program, (four 3-unit courses), each student will receive a Certificate of Ministry from Hope International University. Certificates can be customized to emphasize Biblical Knowledge, Pastoral Leadership, or Spiritual Formation. Courses also may be audited (no credits).

HIU and have joined forces to create an online Certificate of Children’s Ministry Leadership. This collaboration provides affordable, respected training for children’s ministry practitioners, and creates a pathway for credit toward an undergraduate or graduate degree program. Upon completing 12 units in this SALT program, each student will receive a Certificate of Children's Ministry Leadership from Hope International University. Courses also may be audited (no credits).

Students who wish to complete a full bachelor's or master's degree through Hope International University after completing several SALT courses, must also fulfill the admission requirements for the University (see Undergraduate Admissions or Graduate Admissions).
