The Master of Arts in Education Principles and Practices at Â鶹´«Ã½'s School of Education is an innovative, in-residence degree program designed to serve teachers and leaders working in schools as well as education advocates who work in out-of-school contexts.

Through core coursework accompanied by courses in a chosen area of specialization — advanced literacy methods or educational equity — students gain tools to improve in their everyday work with youth, communicate research-based best practices to diverse audiences, and work for change in collaboration with local stakeholders.Ìý

Curriculum Overview

The degree requires the completion of 32 credits of coursework (five core courses and five courses in a chosen area of specialization), a two-credit-hour capstone project and an oral examination.

Fieldwork and Research Opportunities

All coursesÌýinclude opportunities for site-based applications of educational concepts and processes. Through the capstone project,Ìýstudents conduct action research designed to enhance their daily practice and/or spark change in their individual educational context.

Careers

The master’s degree in education principles and practices prepares students for a variety of roles including school team leader, curriculum coordinator, professional development provider, educational outreach coordinator, nonprofit specialist, adult educator and education advocate.

Application Deadlines

Domestic students should apply for the fall semester by June 15, for the spring semester by Nov. 1, and for the summer semester by April 1. International students should apply by May 1 for the fall semester, by Oct. 1 for the spring semester, and by Feb. 1 for the summer semester.

Review Process

A committee reviews each application holistically.

Requirements for International Students

All admission policies and requirements for domestic students apply to international students. International students must also meet the following additional requirements:

  • ¶Ù±ð³¾´Ç²Ô²õ³Ù°ù²¹³Ù±ðÌýEnglish Language Proficiency
  • Academic records, in English translation, of students who have undertaken postsecondary studies outside the United States must include:
    • Courses taken and/or lectures attended
    • Practical laboratory work
    • The maximum and minimum grades attainable
    • The grades earned or the results of all end-of-term examinations
    • Any honors or degrees received.
  • WES and ECE transcripts are accepted.
  • In order to be issued an I-20 for your F-1 visa application, students must submit financial documents. Proof of financial support that must include:
    • A letter of financial support from the person(s) or sponsoring agency funding the student's time at Â鶹´«Ã½
    • A letter from the sponsor's bank verifying that the funds are available and will be so for the duration of the student's study at the University

Continuation Standards

Students must maintain a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.00 in all graduate/professional courses.

Roadmaps are recommended semester-by-semester plans of study for programs and assume full-time enrollmentÌýunless otherwise noted. Ìý

Courses and milestones designated as critical (marked with !) must be completed in the semester listed to ensure a timely graduation. Transfer credit may change the roadmap.

This roadmap should not be used in the place of regular academic advising appointments. All students are encouraged to meet with their advisor/mentor each semester. Requirements, course availability and sequencing are subject to change.
