Students: Complete the Daily Symptom Check for a Chance to Win Starbucks Giftcards

Aug. 28, 2020

Dear Billiken Companions,

As we wrap up the second week of classes and head into another weekend, I want to acknowledge the hard work many of you continue to do to ensure our individual and collective safety during the COVID-19 pandemic. I know that staying vigilant about public health safeguards, while also focusing on your studies, can be challenging, but your efforts are deeply appreciated.

I also know many of you are seeking clarity about how to engage in community, in person, this fall. Please know I’ve been working with a group of student leaders on some detailed guidance, and I am hoping to send it out to you later this weekend.

At this time, I want to take the opportunity to remind you that the #CampusClear symptom check is required if you live, work or learn on any of our St. Louis campuses, even on days when you are learning remotely. And offer a little positive reinforcement to motivate your participation!

Beginning next week, we will randomly select 50 winners each week who will receive a digital $5 Starbucks gift card. To be eligible, you must fill out the symptom check every day the previous week. Winners will be emailed on Mondays, and you can win more than once.

#CampusClear is available as a smartphone app, or through an online version of the self-screening tool. There is no charge for the app.

Students should fill out the app before arriving on campus or leaving their residence hall/apartment each day, reporting if they are experiencing any of the 11 identified symptoms associated with COVID-19. Users are also asked if they have tested positive for COVID-19 or have been in close contact with someone who has.

Based on their responses, users are either cleared to come to campus, or are given guidance on what to do next, such as calling the Student Health Center (314-977-2323). When a student reports a symptom, that information is shared with the Student Health Center team for follow-up.

Please remember if you split your time between campus and home, you are required to complete the symptom check daily –– even on days you are learning remotely. On days you are not coming to campus, simply indicate that you are learning remotely, and submit the information.

Students who are learning remotely 100 percent of the time are not required to complete the daily screening. A future message will provide details on how to opt-out of #CampusClear in such cases.

Thanks for your continued commitment to SLU –– and to each other. Each time you follow through on one of the safeguards –– including submitting daily symptom information –– you are living your commitments to be persons for others.

Have a restful and safe weekend,
