Degrees in the 麻豆传媒 School of Social Work are designed to empower students progress through the programs on a full-time or part-time basis. Graduate Application Deadlines and Decision Timeline

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Applicants can expect to receive an admission decision within two to three weeks of submitting their application. If your application is deemed incomplete, it will delay the release of an admission decision until all required application components are received. The Admissions Committee will only review and release a decision on complete applications.

Application Process  

If all required application materials are submitted, an admissions decision will be provided within a week. Incomplete applications will not be forwarded to the admissions committee for review.

Application fee: Currently waived. The application fee is typically $65. We encourage prospective candidates to apply as soon as possible to take advantage of the waived app fee.

  • Recommendation Letters: Optional. Submit recommendation letters if you think it will help the admissions committee assess your candidacy. If your academic track record falls below the 3.O cumulative GPA requirement, you are strongly encouraged to provide at least one recommendation letter.
    • Academic Recommendation Letter (current or former professor or academic advisor)
    • Professional Recommendation Letter (current or former supervisor or mentor)
    • Within the application portal, you will input the contact information of your recommender(s). Once you submit your application, your recommender will receive the link to upload their recommender letter.
  • Resume or Curriculum vitae: Please upload your most current resume or CV.
  • Professional Statement/Essay: Within the application portal, there are prompts/questions to address within your essay. Please limit your essay to three pages double-spaced.
  • Standardized Test Score: (GRE): Not required.
  • Academic transcripts: Applicants must submit transcripts from all previous colleges or universities attended. We accept unofficial transcripts from a degree-granting institution. Admitted candidates will need to provide the official degree-conferred transcripts prior to the start of their program.
    • If you upload your transcript(s) to the application, they are considered unofficial.
      Official transcripts are sent from your undergraduate institution directly to SLU. Electronic delivery of transcripts is preferred and should be sent to graduate@slu.edu.
  • International applicants must submit a course-by-course transcript evaluation from SpanTran (TEC), WES or ECE. This requirement cannot be waived.  
Requirements for International Students

All admission policies and requirements for domestic students apply to international students. International students must also meet the following additional requirements: 

  • Demonstrate English Language Proficiency. The School of Social Work graduate programs require a TOEFL of 92 or higher.
  • Academic transcripts, in English translation
  • Course-by-course Credential Evaluation Reports from Spantran (TEC), WES, ECE or Scholaro

If admitted to the School of Social Work, the International Office will require additional documentation to issue an I-20. Questions about these requirements can be directed to internationalservices@slu.edu

Financial Aid for Graduate Students

The SLU School of Social Work recognizes that cost can be a concern when choosing to continue your education, and has identified the following financial aid resources to assist you:

Graduate Scholarships

Beginning in 2023, 100% of new School of Social Work graduate students will receive scholarship support thanks to our generous alumni and benefactors. You may also qualify for federal graduate student loans and apply for assistantship and fellowship opportunities. Plus, incoming students receive one semester of paid practicum experience while fulfilling course requirements. Please note that the terms of the scholarship are subject to change if a student petitions for a degree transfer or fails to remain in good academic standing. 

Fellowships

The Doerr Fellowship for Equity and Inclusion is a two-year full-tuition fellowship funded by the School of Social Work for new and continuing students. This fellowship requires recipients to serve as members of the School of Social Work's Equity and Inclusion Committee. Recipients will also be expected to actively participate in the Doerr Center's diversity, equity and inclusion activities throughout the year. This fellowship does not include a stipend or health insurance, nor does it cover any fees.

Eligibility Requirement: Awarded to newly accepted master鈥檚 enrolled as a degree-seeking student in the School of Social Work. 

Graduate Assistantships

Full Graduate Assistants work 20 hours a week and receive tuition remission for one academic year, as well as a monthly stipend and the option for health insurance coverage. Graduate assistants provide assistance with research/scholarship, teaching, community engagement, and other professional or departmental activities.

Eligibility Requirement: Awarded to newly accepted master鈥檚 or returning students enrolled as a degree-seeking student in the School of Social Work 
 
Partial Graduate Interns work either 8 or 16 hours a week and receive $5,000 or $10,000 respectively in tuition remittance for the academic year. Graduate interns provide assistance with research/scholarship, teaching, community engagement, and other professional or departmental activities.

Eligibility Requirement: Awarded to newly accepted master鈥檚 or returning students enrolled as a degree-seeking student in the School of Social Work 
 
All Graduate Assistantships/Internships are 9 to 12 month positions beginning in the summer, fall or spring of each academic year.  Individuals can only be awarded a Full Graduate Assistantship for one academic year. Internships can be awarded for up to two consecutive years.
